Our Story
Welcome to Waterfall Creek Farm.
We're Clint, Erin, Hudson and Morgan, and this little patch of land beneath Mount Maroon has been home for more than a decade.
When we bought the property back in 2013, it looked very different to the farm you see today. The paddocks were dry, the old post-war house had seen better days, and our original plan was to remove the house and start fresh.
Instead we chose renovate and slowly shape the space into a home that could grow alongside our family. We renovated room by room, planted tree by tree, built garden beds, repaired fences and slowly breathed life back into a property that had been waiting for someone to care for it.
We didn't move here with dreams of becoming homesteaders.
Like many families, we simply wondered...
"Could we grow some of our own food?"
So we planted a few vegetables. Then a few more.
Before we knew it, we had an orchard. Chickens and ducks scratching beneath the fruit trees. Pigs happily turning over patches of ground we'd been meaning to clear. Cattle grazing the paddocks. Bees humming through the garden. It seemed that every new project naturally led to the next.
Looking back, it was never really just about growing food. It was about slowing down. Paying attention to the changing seasons. Learning that healthy soil grows healthy food, and discovering that some of life's best moments happen with dirt under your fingernails and a basket in your hands.
These days, around 80–90% of the food on our table comes from the farm. Fruit and vegetables picked just before dinner. Grass-fed beef and pork. Fresh eggs. Honey. Shelves filled with preserves. And plenty of creamy Jersey milk from our much-loved house cow, Lucy.
Waterfall Creek Farm wasn't created overnight, and it certainly wasn't built by experts. It grew through curiosity, plenty of trial and error, and a willingness to keep trying and learning. Over time, we discovered that ordinary families are capable of far more than they often realise.
We're still learning. There will always be another project on the go. Another fruit tree to plant. Another skill to learn. Another season that teaches us something new. And honestly...we wouldn't have it any other way.
We don't believe self-sufficiency is about doing everything yourself or getting it right the first time. It's just about starting. Growing a few herbs on the windowsill. Learning to preserve your first harvest. Keeping a handful of chickens. Trying something you've never done before. Step by step, season by season.
If our story encourages someone to plant their first tomato, bake their first loaf of sourdough, or finally give keeping chickens a go, then sharing this place is worth it.
After all, that's exactly how Waterfall Creek Farm began.
