Our Go-To Dinner List

Sundays usually look a little like this for us - a quick reset for the week ahead, and a glance at the list on the fridge.

No matter how busy life gets, dinner still needs to happen every… single… night.

That’s why I keep a simple go-to dinner list on our fridge. It’s nothing fancy - just a collection of tried-and-true meals I know our family enjoys, ready to refer to on those afternoons when the brain has stopped working and I have absolutely no idea what to cook.

Living more than 20 kilometres from the nearest store means popping out for a missing ingredient isn’t really an option. Instead, we try to keep our pantry stocked with bulk basic ingredients, home-butchered meat in the freezer, preserves that pack a punch and plenty of seasonal produce growing in the garden.

Having those staples on hand means there’s usually the makings of a meal somewhere - even when it doesn’t feel like it at first.

That’s where this little list comes in.

A quick glance at the fridge, a rummage through the pantry, freezer and garden and, voilà - a wholesome, home-cooked and nourishing dinner comes together. More often than not, there’s enough left over for lunch the following day too.

It’s a very simple system, but sometimes those are the ones that work best.

Our Go-To Dinner List

Keep our list handy for the next time you find yourself wondering, “What on earth am I going to cook for dinner?” Hopefully there’s an idea or two here that makes your week a little easier.
